Portsmouth Dems throw awesome clambake!

Rep. Patrick Kennedy with Jack and JohnThe Portsmouth Democratic Town Committee held their annual clambake today, and over 100 local folks enjoyed a superb traditional clambake and chatted with local (and not-so-local) politicians. (That's Jack and me with Rep. Patrick Kennedy.)

In addition to Rep. Kennedy, Lieutenant Governor Roberts, AG Patrick Lynch, State Senator Chuck Levesque, and Reps Ray Gallison and Amy Rice were on hand, as was former state senate candidate and blogger from down the road at RITwelfth, Eileen Spillane, and Jeanne-Marie Napolitano of the Newport City Council.

We sat around, talked, politicians said a few words, Town Council President Dennis Canario ran a very successful auction, and folks had a blast.

This was the first time Jack had seen a traditional bake, and watching the process is half the fun. I have a bunch of pictures from the event posted on Flickr. Check 'em out.

Thanks to everyone on the Democratic Committee who worked hard to make this happen!

Clambake

It's a fun event. I think that the auction is new. It called for a lot of work by many & it was quite well done! Both Newport & Portsmouth have had great events recently. Newport was not trying to raise funds, while I believe Portsmouth did a superb job trying to raise $.
A rep from Sen. Whitehouse was also there. She was the spaghetti dinner chief chef & bottlewasher at all his events. Now, she tells me, pasta salad is her specialty.
The bake is great! The only other ones I know of cost a LOT more. They also did a great job fixing up the Portuguese-American club downstairs. It looked great!
Thanks for all the pics you took!
